Cryolipolysis or CoolSculpting

Cryolipolysis or CoolSculpting

The difference between Cryolipolysis and CoolSculpting

The terms cryolipolysis, fat freezing and CoolSculpting sometimes get used interchangeably and this can make things confusing.

Cryolipolysis and fat freezing

Cryolipolysis and fat freezing mean the exact same. Cryolipolysis is the name of the cosmetic procedure that uses controlled cooling to target and reduce fat cells without causing damage to surrounding tissues.

The term "cryolipolysis" can be broken down into "cryo," meaning cold, and "lipolysis," which refers to the breakdown of fat. The idea behind cryolipolysis is to apply cold temperatures to specific areas of the body, causing the fat cells to crystallize and eventually die. The body then naturally eliminates these dead fat cells over time.

The term fat freezing is often used by both clients and service providers to describe cryolipolysis treatments. While "fat freezing" itself is not a scientific term, its an easier and more descriptive name for the same service

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a brand name which has become synonymous for cryolipolysis as the CoolSculpting device was the first cryolipolysis device that came to market.

CoolSculpting, developed by Zeltiq Aesthetics (now a part of Allergan), was the first cryolipolysis device to receive FDA approval in 2010. This approval marked a significant milestone in the field of non-invasive fat reduction treatments, as this is the point where cryolipolysis treatment really took off. CoolSculpting has since become a widely used and recognised method for reducing localised fat deposits through the application of controlled cooling.

The difference between cryolipolysis and CoolSculpting

While cryolipolysis is a general term for the process, CoolSculpting is a specific treatment created by a specific manufacturer that utilizes cryolipolysis technology.

What other type of cryolipolysis treatments are there

Since CoolSculpting's FDA approval in 2010 many other brands have created their own variations of cryolipolysis treatments.

After the success of CoolSculpting there were a range of brands that created their own fat freezing devices and treatment protocols and brought these to market. Most devices work very similarly to one another, as the same type of technology is used to create the same physical response in the client's body. However, as with all types of technology, there can be significant price and quality differences between devices. These significant price differences in different cryolipolysis machines is notable to clients as treatment prices often reflect the equipment cost.

At Fat Freezing Manchester we use the Quattro Pro device from Sculpt Pro Aesthetics with 4 360 specialist applicators and a specialist mini applicator for chin treatments. This device is amongst the highest quality devices currently available. The premium technology allows for consistent, safe and effective treatment. We are continuously supported by the manufacturer, only use consumables from the manufacturer and keep the device fully serviced at all times.

Price differences of CoolSculpting and other cryolipolysis treatments

Treatment prices for CoolSculpting and other cryolipolysis treatments are set by the clinic that offers them. That means that there is no straight forward comparison possible between the prices of CoolSculpting and cryolipolysis.

Prices for treatments can vary greatly due to location, size of the clinic, experience of the clinician, and the clinic's general pricing strategy. Due to our smaller size we can offer our premium treatments at competitive rates.

We offer standardised low rates, but we never offer seasonal or other arbitrary discounts, as we want each of our clients to get the best price. Some clinics opt for higher rates but regular or continuous discounts, and other clinics opt for prices to only be provided during an in-person consultation. We believe price transparency is important, as its an important factor when deciding whether treatment is appropriate.

CoolSculpting or other cryolipolysis, which is most effective

The effectiveness of cryolipolysis treatments, including CoolSculpting and other devices, can vary based on several factors.

Some factors that can influence the final treatments results include:

Device technology

The quality of the device matters. Different cryolipolysis devices may have variations in their technology, such as cooling mechanisms, applicator design, and treatment protocols. These differences can affect how efficiently the devices target and reduce fat cells.

Applicator size and shape
The size and shape of the applicator used during treatment can impact the coverage and contouring of the treated area. Some devices may have applicators designed for specific body areas or sizes, affecting the precision of fat reduction. Where applicators are rounded and cooling plates cover the full inside of the applicator the largest possible area can be treated. Where the cooling plates cover the full internal side of the applicator the device can cool down an area more effectively and evenly.

Treatment areas
The effectiveness of cryolipolysis can vary depending on the area being treated. Certain areas may respond more favourably to treatment than others, and some devices may be better suited for particular body regions. Areas where fat is very tight multiple treatments generally are required.

Client characteristics
Individual factors, such as a person's body composition, the amount of subcutaneous fat, and skin elasticity, can influence treatment outcomes. Active and healthy clients will generally have the best results. Those that gain weight will see less or even no results. Some individuals may see more noticeable results than others regardless of weight gain, and specific results can never be guaranteed.

Number of sessions
The number of treatment sessions can impact the degree of fat reduction. Some individuals may require multiple sessions for optimal results, while others may achieve their desired outcomes with a single session.

Post-treatment care
Following recommended post-treatment care instructions is crucial for achieving and maintaining results. This may include maintaining a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise to support the body's natural elimination of treated fat cells. Massage and water consumption also help to improve the results and the speed in which results are visible.

The clinician

Where a clinician is knowledgeable and careful the risks of negative side effects are extremely low. However, where a clinician is careless, issues could occur.
