How HI-EMT Muscle Stimulation works

HI-EMT stands for: High Intensity Electro-Magnetic Therapy.
HI-EMT treatment uses electromagnetic energy to help you build muscle and lose fat in specific areas of the body including the stomach, buttocks, legs and arms.
At your appointment specialist HI-EMT paddles are placed firmly on the areas where you want to build muscle and lose excess fat. These paddles send through a 30-minute series of high intensity pulses that cause supramaximal muscle contractions.
These continuous muscle contractions, totalling about 20,000 per 30-minute treatment lead to what is called "muscle hypertrophy", which refers to an increase in muscle mass. As the muscles are 'working', they need energy quickly, which leads to fat burning in the area.
Research has shown an average of 16% muscle increase and 19% fat reduction can be achieved through a single course of HI-EMT treatments.
You could consider HI-EMT a super-charged and super-targeted workout of a specific area of the body. This is a very safe and highly effective treatment for those of good general health.
Who should have HI-EMT muscle stimulation
This treatment is most effective for those close to their goal weight within a healthy weight range. This specific treatment is less effective for those that are larger. If you are in the higher BMI range and either maintaining or losing weight then fat freezing or ultrasound cavitation with radiofrequency treatment may be more suitable to you.
HI-EMT timeframes
Each HI-EMT treatment will take 30 minutes. For best results you have 2 treatments a week for 3 consecutive weeks. You can adjust this to best fit your schedule.
Most will begin to notice results from 2 weeks from the first treatment, with the best results becoming visible 2 months following the final treatment.

Body treatments, including HI-EMT muscle stimulation therapy, aren't right for everyone.
Its important that the treatment is completely safe to you. If you have any of the below you won't be able to have this treatment. ​

Women who have stomach HI-EMT ideally plan their treatment schedule around their periods, as the treatment may cause additional discomfort and bloating during this time.

There are no specific mental health conditions that will exclude you from treatment. However, treatment may be refused if there are concerns for your wellbeing as listed here.

How to optimise HI-EMT results
As with most body contouring treatments, there are things you can do to optimise your results.
​
Drink plenty of water and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle throughout the period of your treatment course. Increase your protein intake the day of your treatment. Ideally you plan on taking in 25 to 30 grams of protein shortly after your treatment.
​
You can continue with normal day to day activity immediately after your treatment, but you may want to plan a couple hours of relaxation following your appointment as you may have some minor discomfort. During those first hours you ideally would also avoid alcohol, caffeine, fizzy drinks and salty foods, and stick with that healthy protein meal or snack.
​
As with all body treatments its important to note that weight gain will minimise your results. Body treatments such as HI-EMT, as well as all other treatments offered at our clinic are best for people that are either maintaining weight or losing weight.
​
No body treatment will ever replace exercise, diet and other wellbeing practices. Combining HI-EMT with regular exercise will always yield best results.
